The Republican Governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, just put himself on a list he probably does not want to be on moving forward.
I am not sure what his plans are after his current term runs out, but my guess is that he will not see much support after a recent statement.
When asked about backing Trump in 2024, Hutchinson said there is no way he would get behind Trump for another presidential run.
Hutchinson seems to be falling in line with the Republican establishment on this front.
Now, Arkansas does not exactly have a stellar political reputation, so it would be hard for Hutchinson to gain national grip regardless, but he surely just lost the support of any Trump supporter were he to decide to run for a different office.
While discussing the possibility of Trump running again in the 2024 election and if he would support such a run, Hutchinson stated, “No, I wouldn’t. It’s time, and he’s got a good family. I worked with Ivanka and others, and they love America. But I would not support him for reelection in 2024.
“He’s going to have a voice, but as former presidents do, but there is many voices in the party.
“Again, he should not define our future. We’ve got to define it for ourselves, and that has to be based upon the principles that gave us the strength in America.
“We got to respond to the people that like Trump. We’ve got to respond and identify with the issues that gave him the first election and gave him support throughout his presidency.
“There is one that we have to reach out to, but it’s based upon conservative principles and reaching out to the blue-collar voters that are important and identify with him because he’s fighting for them, and we’ve got to take that message, but we just got to handle it in a different way with different personalities.”
This will surely not sit well with the former president and his supporters.
What makes this even more interesting is that former White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders has already announced that she will be running in the gubernatorial race for Arkansas.
She may now have to decide whose support she wants more… Hutchinson or Trump.
I think we all know the answer to that one!
