Democrat Joe Manchin Warns Dems Against Impeachment of Trump

With Democrats and Republicans now at an even split in the Senate, Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) becomes the most important man in the room.

Manchin is very moderate and has a moderate-conservative base, so he cannot just vote for Democrat measures without repercussion.

He has also gone on the record to say that he will not allow Democrats to push through extreme agenda issues even though he is a Democrat.

Impeaching Trump apparently falls into that category, because Manchin is already soapboxing that this is just a bad idea.

Don’t Do It

Even with Republican animosity toward Trump at an all-time high, it will be very tough for an impeachment of Trump to pass through.

Democrats would need a two-thirds majority in the Senate to get it to pass, and they are probably still far short of that number.

Manchin, when asked about the impeachment, stated, “They know the votes aren’t there.

“I think this is so ill-advised for Joe Biden to be coming in, trying to heal the country, try to be the president of all the people when we are so divided and fighting again.”

If Dems fail to impeach Trump, it could easily backfire on them in 2024.

They have Trump where they want him right now, but a failed impeachment could re-energize his base and possibly put Trump back on the radar again.

Additionally, an impeachment would dominate the Senate for the next month or so, putting Biden’s cabinet and his agenda on the backburner.

Simply put, it just does not make sense and as Manchin stated, it is “ill-advised.”
