GOP House Member Changes Mind, Will Not Retire

The GOP is breathing a bit of a sigh of relief today, with a key seat no longer being vacated.  

Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) had previously announced that she would not be running for re-election.  

She has since had a change of heart and will be filing this week to run for re-election. 

Much Easier 

It is almost a year to the day that Spartz announced that she was going to step away from Congress. 

At the time, she stated she wanted to leave office to have more time with her family, specifically her teenage children.  

She has now decided serving in Congress is more important, stating, “I will file this week. The country is too much in trouble.” 

Spartz later made a full statement explaining why she had changed her mind.  

She stated, "As someone who grew up under tyranny, I understand the significance of these challenging times for our Republic, and if my fellow Hoosiers and God decide, I will be honored to continue fighting for them." 

Spartz is far from being the most consistent member of Congress on the GOP side of the aisle, but it will be far easier to defend an incumbent seat than it would be to have an unknown running in her place.  

Republicans have some major challenges headed into this election cycle, especially after reports that the RNC is running low on funding thanks to wasteful spending by RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel.  

McDaniel has been an utter disaster, and I had no problem going against Trump’s endorsement of her and calling her to be replaced in her leadership role.  

It turns out, I very much had that one right... she has to go.  

Just about everything we predicted would happen if she remained in place happened during the 2023 election cycle, and now the 2024 cycle could wind up being a repeat of the 2020 and 2022 cycles unless the RNC somehow gets its act together between now and election day.
