Per federal US Code 1507, it is illegal to protest “near a building or residence occupied or used by such a judge, juror, witness, or court official,” for the purpose of influence.
Anyone violating that federal law is subject to fines and/or imprisonment.
Massive crowds of protesters have shown up at the homes of conservative justices.
There have been protests outside of the Supreme Court.
Yet, nobody has been arrested.
Now GOP House members are demanding the DOJ tell them why.
Enforce the Law
Joe Biden and Merrick Garland both vowed an independent Department of Justice.
Yet, after Joe Biden openly encouraged protests at the personal residences of Supreme Court justices to move their opinion on Roe v. Wade, Attorney General Merrick Garland has not enforced this law.
Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley stated, “The Attorney General directed the U.S. Marshals Service to help ensure the Justices’ safety by providing additional support to the Marshal of the Supreme Court and Supreme Court Police.”
Well, we do not want additional support; we want the protesters removed and arrested as the law demands.
Now, a group of GOP House members, led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), are opening a probe as to why this is not being done.
The group wrote, “In the wake of the unprecedented leak of a draft opinion on a matter currently pending before the Supreme Court, a reactionary wave of violence by radical idealogues has descended upon the country, as crisis pregnancy centers, pro-life organizations and churches have been vandalized and subject to arson attacks and theft of sacred objects.
“Other protestors are picketing at Supreme Court Justices’ family residences with the goal of influencing or intimidating the Justices.
“This likely violates federal law, notwithstanding the Biden Administration and other prominent Democrats stating their support for these unlawful actions.
“We request further information regarding steps the Justice Department is taking to enforce federal law and ensure the protection of Supreme Court Justices.”
The group further stated, “It is unclear whether the Justice Department has been investigating or prosecuting any cases related to the current protests at the Justices’ homes.
“The recent leaked draft opinion has the potential to undermine the ability of Justices to deliberate on cases of national import.
“Our system of law and order must stand firm against any illegal attempts to intimidate Justices by mobbing their neighborhoods.”
This is the same DOJ that reportedly used terrorist tracking tools to monitor parents at school board meetings upset over COVID restrictions and the coverup of sexual assault cases.
Yet, it does not see fit to do anything about protesters blatantly violating federal law.
Garland must be impeached.
