Justice Samuel Alito is not one to make long public speeches that get headlines, but that trend was just shattered.
Alito landed quite a few shots against foreigners trying to have a say about how we do things here in the US of A.
It was a side of Alito I wish we saw more of.
Alito started, “I had the honor this term of writing, I think, the only Supreme Court decision in the history of that institution that has been lambasted by a whole string of foreign leaders, who felt perfectly fine commenting on American law.”
Then he landed a direct hit, stating, “One of these was former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. But he paid the price.”
He continued, “But what really wounded me was when the Duke of Sussex addressed the United Nations and seemed to compare the decision whose name may not be spoken with the Russian attack on Ukraine.
“Well, despite this temptation I’m not going to talk about cases from other countries.
“All I am going to say is that ultimately if we are going to win the battle to protect religious freedom in an increasingly secular society we will need more than positive law.”
Alito also pointed to the fact that we have too many in our younger generation that because they don’t believe in something, they will not defend it and want it abolished.
I think he hit the nail on the head.
You do not have to be a person of faith to defend a person’s right to religious freedom.
You do not have to agree with what someone else says to defend their right to say it.
That is not how this latest generation operates, and it is becoming the ruination of this country.
