Caroline County Circuit Court Judge Jonathan Newell felt the walls closing in and he took the cowards way out.
Newell had been under investigation on child porn allegations.
Just as authorities were moving in to make an arrest, Newell took his own life.
According to reports, the FBI had arrived at his home around 6:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
At 6:43 a.m., agents found him dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gun wound.
Newell had been on leave for months after allegations were made by a young boy that had gone on a hunting trip with the judge.
FBI Special Agent Rachel Corn noted in his report, “One stated that he moved his own genitalia for Newell to look for ticks, and the other initially did not recall if Newell touched his genitalia, but later stated that Newell once or twice moved the minor’s genitalia to look for ticks.”
In a raid of his home, the FBI had found incriminating video, which Newell denied setting up.
However, during the investigation, an agent heard a loud “crunch” while he was being interviewed, which was reportedly a memory card.
This seemed to be confirmed when Newell was forced to take a CT scan, with the foreign object showing up in the x-ray.
