For months, Governor Andrew Cuomo has been bragging about the low mortality rate in his nursing homes.
That number, however, was a farce, because Cuomo was manipulating the numbers to his benefit.
Now that the real numbers have been revealed, New York has gone from one of the best in the country to one of the worst.
Fall from Grace
According to Cuomo’s original numbers, New York had been ranked in the top 13 states in the country in terms of mortality rate in nursing homes.
An investigation, however, found that he was cooking the numbers.
The real number almost doubled the total of nursing home-related deaths in the state.
New York is now ranked 35th in the country, a huge drop from the numbers that Cuomo had been touting.
The true numbers moved New York’s mortality rate from 21 percent up to 33 percent, ranking it 33 of 48.
This number represents almost 14 percent of the state’s total death toll.
