Establishment Republicans just want Trump to go away.
They miss the good old days of being corrupt and nobody exposing them.
Trump called them out on corruption and the fact they never show a backbone when push comes to shove.
According to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, even though Trump is no longer in office, that is not going to change anytime soon.
‘Nobody Can Fight Him’
The problem Republicans have right now is that at least half the Republican voters in this country remain loyal to Trump.
We saw the outrage when McConnell went against Trump, and party members are finally starting to realize that if they disenfranchise these voters, they will get crushed in the next election cycle.
Gingrich believes Trump is here to stay, largely because he will continue to fight, something nobody else seems willing to do.
Gingrich stated, “[W]hat’s very striking is that President Trump still has such enormous reach in the party that nobody can fight him.
“I mean, you can complain about him. You can criticize him. But McConnell can’t possibly fight Trump. He doesn’t have a big enough base.
“And it’s also a reminder that there is sort of an establishment insider party that sits around at cocktail parties in Washington.
“And then there’s this huge country outside of Washington. And that country in 2015, by about two to one, did not like the Republican leadership in the Congress, and that was the forerunner of us ending up with Trump as the presidential nominee.”
