Not one to waste a crisis, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) now has the Capitol engulfed in metal detectors.
Everyone, including members of Congress, are now required to pass through them before entering the halls of Congress.
This has created outrage among Republicans, especially considering violations carry some rather hefty fines.
Not Going to Happen
The reaction by both sides here was pretty predictable.
Pelosi and Democrats are trying to have the entire country live in fear right now.
So, these metal detectors are just an ugly reminder of the Capitol riot.
As a way to enforce the new rule that everyone must pass through, Pelosi has stated there will be a $5,000 fine for the first violation and as much as a $10,000 fine for subsequent violations.
This new rule is scheduled to go into effect when the new term officially starts next week.
Republicans also see this new security measure as a violation of their constitutional right.
Among those Republicans banging the drum is Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX)…
Also, and very much as expected, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), a HUGE Second Amendment advocate, was upset with the new rule…
We were not in need of more metal detectors when we were locked in the Chambers on the 6th. https://t.co/r8ILOZWDN7

It is just one more point of contention between the two parties that is likely to raise tension and animosity, not decrease it, as everyone had been hoping.
Virtually every measure taken by Pelosi these days seems to be to enflame, and I just don’t see that changing anytime soon.
