Police Exodus Causing Problems Around the Country

We have reported officers leaving in specific departments around the country, such as the NYPD and Seattle.

This problem, however, is far from being limited to just these cities.

This week, the Fraternal Order of Police broke the news that they are seeing an unprecedented exodus that is leaving many communities in danger.

National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Patrick Yoes discussed the issue during the annual Faith & Blue Conference earlier this week.

He stated, “I want to signal a crisis.

“We see law enforcement officers leave our profession at a rate we’ve never seen before.

“Our profession is dependent on the best and brightest stepping up and taking this job.

“And because of the actions, and because of the turmoil that has happened in the last two years, we have a crisis right now in manpower.”

So far this year, officers shot in the line of duty is up 14 percent over last year, which had set a record.

Between 2020 and 2021, officers killed in the line of duty jumped 55 percent.

Yoes continued, “Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a very difficult time in American history in the last two years.

“America’s law enforcement has been demonized by many.

“It has created a rift within this country and eroded the very trust of the institution and the profession of law enforcement.

“And we’re paying for it. We’re paying for it in our communities with higher crime. And we’re also paying for it in law enforcement officers.”

Currently, DC is short about 500 officers from its budget.

In New York City, 71 percent of the officers that put in their papers did so before becoming pension eligible.
