Jessica Doty Whitaker was only 24 years old.

She was also the mother of a 3-year-old boy.

She was reportedly murdered after an argument took place while she and a group of friends were walking along the Indianapolis Canal Walk in the early hours of July 5.

An argument broke out over race with another group, when Jessica or someone in her group yelled “all lives matter” in response to someone else yelling “black lives matter.”

The beef was thought to be quashed, but as Jessica’s group continued home, they came under gunfire, allegedly from a member of the other group.

Jessica’s boyfriend returned fire, but he stated that he did not hit anyone.

Jessica was not so fortunate, and now her son will celebrate his fourth birthday and every subsequent birthday without his mother.
