REPORT: Areu’s Claims of Sexual Harassment Plagued by Inconsistencies

The sexual harassment allegations made earlier this week by former Fox News contributor Cathy Areu are quickly falling apart.

According to Areu, she was harassed by several members of the Fox News team, including Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.

The more the case is investigated, the more it seems likely these allegations are nothing more than a figment of her imagination.

Real or Imagined?

In all, Areu has claimed that five Fox News employees harassed her but she was always too afraid to speak up.

The recent suit filed against Ed Henry by Jennifer Eckhart, however, gave her the courage to finally say her piece.

Areu claimed that Sean Hannity offered up $100 for someone to take her out to dinner.

She also claimed that Tucker Carlson tried to push himself on her and even offered for her to spend the night with him on one occasion when his wife and kids were out of town.

Her stories, however, are quickly falling apart.

An independent investigation was done by a private firm on behalf of Fox News to validate or invalidate the claims after Areu made her allegations.

That investigation turned up some bad news for Areu.

On the night she claims Carlson told her he would be alone, Mediate’s Rudy Takala reported, “eyewitness accounts indicate Carlson’s wife was with him on a key evening when Areu said Carson promised her he would be alone.”

The suit stated, “Following the show, Mr. Carlson changed on set into his leather jacket for the annual Christmas party that he told Ms. Areu he would only be attending for 10 minutes.”

The problem there was that her last appearance with Tucker as the host was on November 30 and the Christmas party was held on December 10.

Takala stated, “Areu did not appear on the December 10 episode of Tucker Carlson Tonight. Additionally, she appeared on a December 28 edition of the program, guest-hosted that night by Mark Steyn.”

Her attorney countered, “The incident with Tucker Carlson actually occurred on Nov. 30, not Dec. 10.

“Ms. Areu misrecollected that the incident occurred in December because it occurred following a winter/Christmas segment.

“It is entirely possible that she appeared on Dec. 28, although she doesn’t have a specific recollection of that and if she did appear, it was not in Mr. Carlson’s physical presence.”

Even that, however, has discrepancies, because Tucker Carlson’s wife did attend the party as well as staying with him that night at his hotel.

The story about Hannity is also falling apart rather quickly.

Areu claims Hannity threw $100 on the set desk, then, “[Hannity] then began calling out to the men in the room and demanding that someone take Ms. Areu out on a date for drinks at Del Friscos. He repeatedly yelled ‘Who wants to take her on a date?'”

According to the investigation, however, Hannity did nothing more than offer to put up $100 so Areu and her friend could go out for drinks after the show.

Prior to appearing, Areu reportedly requested guest access for her friend, Alex, which was granted.

After her appearance, she sent an email to Hannity and his staff, stating, “Thanks so much for having me on. Way too much fun.”

There was also reportedly a second email sent, stating, “Please thank Sean for a fun evening. He shouldn’t have! … but We did exactly as he and Alex’s had bet. Down to the pineapple martini.”

If you have seen Areu’s appearances and follow her on Twitter, it is fairly safe to see that she is a bit “out there.”

Here are just two of her appearances with Tucker Carlson…

At this point, it seems as though the events she described probably only happened in her head.

Based on how Fox News treated Ed Henry after Eckhart’s claims were investigated and the fact the network is taking zero action against anyone in the Areu suit (other than Henry), it seems as though Hannity and Carlson’s innocence is not even in question here any longer.
