Just who and what is behind the decision-making at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)?
If we are to believe a report that is blowing up all over the internet right now, it surely is not science.
Instead, it would be the powerful and influential American Federation of Teachers (AFT) union that is putting significant pressure on the CDC regarding its guidance on schools reopening.
The Americans for Public Trust group got its hands on emails between the AFT and the CDC via a Freedom of Information Act suit.
The emails were then turned over to the New York Post.
The emails show significant activity between CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, her top advisers, White House personnel, and union officials.
While the communication did not reportedly involve White House personnel, they were looped into the emails, so the Biden administration was very much aware of what was taking place here.
The AFT was clearly trying to pressure the CDC regarding school reopening guidelines to the point it was even offering language to be used in official policy.
For instance, AFT senior director for health issues Kelly Trautner wrote on February 1, “We were able to review a copy of the draft guidance document over the weekend and were able to provide some initial feedback to several staff this morning about possible ways to strengthen the document.
“… We believe our experiences on the ground can inform and enrich thinking around what is practicable and prudent in future guidance documents.”
In yet another email, Trautner goes as far as to call it a “partnership,” stating, “We are immensely grateful for your genuine desire to earn our confidence and your committment to partnership.”
According to the report, the pressure applied by the union worked, with several “suggestions” made by the AFT being added to the policy almost verbatim.
Even CNN has started to question why schools have not been fully reopened, with Jake Tapper recently putting Dr. Walensky on the spot to provide a specific reason why our schools are still mostly closed.
She answered, “If you’re in middle school or high school we would advocate for virtual learning for that group … We really don’t want to bring community disease into the classroom.
“We also know that mask breaching is among the reasons that we have transmission within schools when it happens.
“Somewhere around 60% of students are reliably masking. That has to be universal. So we have work to do.”
She made these claims even though there is absolutely no scientific evidence to back this up, but there is plenty of pressure from the AFT to keep these schools closed and virtual learning as the “new normal.”
Dr. Monica Gandhi, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, after seeing the emails, stated, “What seems strange to me here is there would be this very intimate back and forth including phone calls where this political group gets to help formulate scientific guidance for our major public health organization in the United States.
“This is not how science-based guidelines should work or be put together.”
We agree completely, so now it is just a question of someone in the media having the guts to put Joe Biden specifically on the spot on this.
We do not want to hear Psaki’s spin or any more nonsense from Dr. Walensky… let’s get Joe on the record on this.
