The State of New York is dropping all kinds of new mandates in regard to how and where Thanksgiving can be celebrated.
One of the most controversial mandates is that there can be no more than 10 people at a gathering.
In addition to residents being upset, local police around the state seem to think the new rules are just as ridiculous and have openly stated they will refuse to enforce them.
Not Police Officers
Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino stated, “We have limited resources and we have to set priorities, so obtaining a Search Warrant to enter your home to see how many Turkey or Tofu eaters are present is not a priority.”
Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo stated, “I can’t see how devoting our resources to counting cars in citizens’ driveways or investigating how much turkey and dressing they’ve purchased is for the public good.”
Additionally, New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea has stated that he will not ask his officers to enforce the new rule either.
Cuomo was furious, stating, “I don’t believe that person is a law enforcement officer.
“I don’t want a law enforcement officer who says, ‘I’m only enforcing the law that I like or think should be enforced.’”
That last statement by Cuomo is priceless in that what he is saying is exactly what Democrats have been asking police officers to do for years.
Every sanctuary city and state in this country, of which New York is one, is ignoring immigration laws simply because they don’t think they should be enforced.
Quite frankly, I can’t believe a member of the media did not challenge Cuomo on this during his press conference.
Keep in mind, most law enforcement agencies around the country supported Trump, but the fact they are now blatantly defying an order given by Governor Cuomo is pretty telling that even they have had enough with these ridiculous restrictions being placed on the American people that many would say are unconstitutional.
We do not live in a police state, and having the local police burst into homes to count heads would constitute such a setting.
Is this the beginning of something much bigger or will this just blow over? We obviously have no idea, but the clear friction among elected officials and law enforcement appears to be at its tipping point.
This is something we are going to have to keep our eyes on, especially if we start to see an uprising among other law enforcement agencies around the country.
