For the next four weeks or so, the number one news item will be the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
The attacks against her by Democrats will be vicious, but President Trump just set a trap hoping to keep them focused on one area.
While appearing on “Fox & Friends” this weekend, Trump hinted that a Barrett confirmation could finally overturn Roe v. Wade.
The Trap is Set
One of the attacks against Barrett will be that she will overturn Roe v. Wade if confirmed.
This also happens to be the most nonsensical attack of them all.
There simply is not enough support on the bench right now, even if Barrett decided to make it her sole mission as a Supreme Court Justice.
There is not a single member on the liberal side of the bench that would vote in favor of this and there is likely only one conservative justice that would vote in favor of reversing Roe v. Wade right now, that being Justice Thomas.
Of all the arguments against confirming Barrett, this is by far the weakest, which is more than likely why Trump set the bait.
When asked if Barrett could help overturn the famed abortion decision, Trump stated, “It’s certainly possible.”
He added, “And maybe they do it in a different way.
“Maybe they’d give it back to the states.
“You just don’t know what’s going to happen.”
This tack, however, also helps Trump in some pro-life conservative circles, as he can show that regardless of the uphill battle that lies ahead, he continues to do everything in his power to protect the unborn.
Strategically speaking, it is a brilliant move on the part of Trump.
