Donald Trump just made the DOJ an offer.
Not the offer the DOJ probably wants, but it was an offer nonetheless.
Trump offered to help cool down the temperature on the outrage over the FBI raid, albeit with a few nicely landed jabs.
Help the Country
Trump told Fox News that the “temperature has to be brought down.”
Mind you, his words added to the anger, but who can blame him for being upset?
Having said that, Trump knows if there is another riot attributed to him or something that he said, well, his political career is over.
So, now he wants to offer to help settle things down.
He stated, “The country is in a very dangerous position. There is tremendous anger, like I’ve never seen before, over all of the scams, and this new one — years of scams and witch hunts, and now this.
“If there is anything we can do to help, I, and my people, would certainly be willing to do that.
“There has never been a time like this where law enforcement has been used to break into the house of a former president of the United States, and there is tremendous anger in the country — at a level that has never been seen before, other than during very perilous times.”
This is a brilliant move on Trump’s behalf, actually.
He is giving Merrick Garland an out and in the process setting him up for a win-win situation.
If Garland takes him up on the offer, Trump looks like the hero.
If Garland laughs off the offer, then indicts Trump, well, Trump tried to help but if he gets indicted, his career is over, and my guess is that his diehard supporters will go ballistic.
If that happens, Trump can play the hero by calming people down and saying he offered to help, but they slapped his hand away and went for the throat.
Now all Trump needs to do is play it cool until Garland makes his next move and he comes out on top.
