We have been lied to… again.
When the White House was asked about the DOJ case against Donald Trump, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said they found out about the raid when the American people found out about it.
It was a lie… all of it.
The White House was working directly with the DOJ on this for months.
Memos date back as far as April documenting conversations between White House staffers and the DOJ and FBI.
This went all the way to Joe Biden, who waived all privileges for Donald Trump, which opened the door to the grand jury probe.
National Archivist Debra Steidel Wall wrote to Trump attorney Evan Corcoran, “On April 11, 2022, the White House Counsel’s Office — affirming a request from the Department of Justice supported by an FBI letterhead memorandum — formally transmitted a request that NARA provide the FBI access to the 15 boxes for its review within seven days, with the possibility that the FBI might request copies of specific documents following its review of the boxes.”
Wall further implicated Biden, stating, “The Counsel to the President has informed me that, in light of the particular circumstances presented here, President Biden defers to my determination, in consultation with the Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel, regarding whether or not I should uphold the former President’s purported ‘protective assertion of executive privilege.’
“… I have therefore decided not to honor the former President’s ‘protective’ claim of privilege.”
Alan Dershowitz, the famed Harvard law professor emeritus, who voted against Trump twice, stated, “I was very surprised.
“The current president should not be able to waive the executive privilege of a predecessor, without the consent of the former president.
“Otherwise, [privilege] means nothing.
“What president will ever discuss anything in private if he knows the man who beat him can and will disclose it.”
The White House is on very thin ground here, and I don’t see how this plays out well for anyone in this administration, especially when you consider Jean-Pierre stood on that podium and outright lied to the American people.
This is also true when you consider the Trump team has been very cooperative, including a visit to the Mar-a-Lago estate when the first set of documents was retrieved.
This was a political set-up, plain and simple.
